This release introduces a major redesign of Notebook, centred around the new Workspaces and Records model, giving teams a clearer way to run protocol-driven lab sessions, capture evidence, and produce shareable scientific outputs. It also includes significant upgrades to Protocol Tracker, Workspace Replayer, Clip Maker, InstantStream, file handling, AI agent data review, and general usability across the platform.
Features
Notebook Update
Notebook has been redesigned from the ground up to better match industry-standard laboratory workflows. The centrepiece of this redesign is a new model built around Workspaces and Records — which replace and significantly expand upon the prior Experiments functionality. Workspaces are structured, protocol-driven lab sessions with real-time device monitoring and AI agent support. Records are the permanent, shareable scientific outputs those sessions produce. Together they give you a clearer separation between doing the work and documenting it.
Please note: this update deprecates Experiments from the platform. If you have historic experiment data you need access to, please get in touch and we will be happy to either retrieve your data or migrate it over to the new model.
Some highlights from the new functionality includes:
- Workspaces represent the continuation of the majority of the Experiment experience except all data and interactive interfaces are now available within a single page.
- At any point you can create a Record from some or all of the data collated within a Workspace which then becomes an immutable, sharable data entity within your project. When a Workspace ends (either having finished your protocol or simply closing it) a default record of all data and footage gathered is added to your Project.
- Projects now show an overview of your Workspaces, created Records and Protocols that have been used within the Project.
- Organisations now can store "Organisation Files" via the Organisation tab in the navigation bar. This is an ideal location for anything you may find relevant in multiple projects including SOPs, product catalogues or other internal guidelines.
- Projects, Workspaces and Records can now all contain References to not only Organisation Files but also other Records, Projects and even link to external sources.
- Files can be added to Workspaces and Records, including device images, readings or outputs.
- Additionally, spreadsheet and CSV files can be read by Lumi and have Data Tables clipped from them and presented for reference independently within both Workspaces and Records.
- Video clips generated from the Replayer are now listed within the Highlighted Media card (replacing the Media History card)
- AI Agent data can now be viewed and explored within the application without the need to download.
Protocol Tracker
- The Protocol Tracker in workspaces now supports step-by-step completion, instruction notes, voice control, and live progress updates from the protocol
- Vortex sub-actions are now displayed inline within the Protocol Tracker
- You can now pause and resume instructions mid-session
- Reset protocol tracking progress at any time from within the workspace
- A confirmation dialog now appears if you try to close a workspace that has a completed protocol
- Publish a new protocol version directly from the workspace without navigating away
Workspace Replayer
- The multi-device replayer has been upgraded with a new layout and improved overall display
- AI agent visualisations now appear as responsive overlays across all device tiles in the replayer
- A new filter lets you focus the replayer on specific devices
- Protocol instructions now appear alongside footage in the replayer so you can review what was happening at each step
- Deviations are now shown on the replayer timeline
- Save still images directly from the replayer
- New default settings when opening the replayer: all devices shown and a 5-minute zoom window
- Reset all replayer tiles to equal sizes with one click
- The replayer includes a guided tour when you first use it in a workspace
- Subaction observations are now displayed with a count and highlight so you can see how many times each sub-action was observed
- Next and previous instruction navigation buttons for stepping through a protocol in the replayer
General
- Minor typography fixes
- Horizontal tabs with more items than fit on screen now show scroll arrows for navigation via regular mouse
- Added a "Close all" button to the notifications panel to dismiss everything at once
Clip Maker
- Updated clip maker with improved styling and a cleaner title builder
- Improved validation for the time range input when making clip selections
- Multi-device clip selection updated to match the new workspace replayer
Instant Stream
- A connection quality indicator now appears on InstantStream so you can monitor signal strength while your session is running
